Fair Use Policy
Gig Fibre Ltd – v1.0 (13 Oct 2025)
This Policy explains how we keep the network fair and performant for all customers. It forms part of your Agreement.
1) General principles
- Network capacity is shared. We apply proportionate, application-agnostic measures only when necessary to protect overall performance, security, and emergency/critical services.
- We do not block or throttle lawful content selectively. Measures are temporary, targeted, and lifted when congestion subsides.
2) Typical management measures
- Short-term rate-shaping during localized congestion to reduce packet loss/latency.
- DDoS scrubbing/blackholing of attack traffic.
- Abuse containment (e.g., spam bursts, infected hosts) until remediation.
- Reasonable upstream prioritisation for time-critical protocol signalling (e.g., VoIP SIP) to improve reliability, not to preference specific apps.
3) Very heavy usage (illustrative thresholds)
- Residential: if sustained usage regularly exceeds the 99th percentile for your access type over rolling 30-day windows (e.g., constant >5–8 TB/month on FTTP 1 Gbit), we may propose a higher-tier plan or apply evening-peak shaping.
- Business: we assume higher utilisation and normally won't intervene unless usage or patterns materially degrade nearby customers.
(Thresholds are guidance, not hard caps; we look at impact, not just volume.)
4) What we don't allow
- Permanent high-bandwidth server/relay use on residential lines (torrents/seeding boxes, public game servers, open proxies). Use a business tariff for that.
- Circumventing shaping or running services that cause disproportionate signalling/bursting.
5) Notifications & appeals
- If we need to manage or adjust your line, we'll notify you (email/portal) with the reason, change, and how to remedy or upgrade.
- You can appeal via support@gig.uk.net
Our Commitment: We believe in transparent, fair network management that treats all legal traffic equally while protecting the experience for all customers.
