Emergency Services Access with VoIP
IMPORTANT: VoIP services work differently from traditional landlines when it comes to emergency services.
How VoIP Emergency Calls Work
- You can dial 999 or 112 for emergency services
- Calls are routed to emergency services
- Your location information may not be automatically available
- Service depends on internet and power availability
Limitations
VoIP emergency calls have important limitations:
- Power Outages: If your power goes out, VoIP won't work unless you have battery backup
- Internet Outages: If your internet connection fails, you cannot make calls
- Location Accuracy: Emergency services may not know your exact location automatically
- Service Provider Issues: If our service is down, emergency calls won't work
Best Practices
- Always have a backup: Keep a charged mobile phone available
- Know your address: Be prepared to provide your exact location to emergency services
- Test your setup: Ensure your VoIP adapter/router has battery backup if possible
- Register your location: Update your address in your account settings
What to Do in an Emergency
- Dial 999 or 112
- Clearly state your location and the nature of the emergency
- Stay on the line until the operator tells you to hang up
- If VoIP doesn't work, use your mobile phone immediately
